Sorry mate for the double up - just wanted to add my support for that option and clearly mention the main difference. However, thanks for summing it up better. I already beat ya to that suggestion, :P. **Note though** bluray movies ( after all of these two main steps are done- Makemkv for ripping and Handbrake for shrinking) can take up between 2.5GB and easily up to 15GB depending on the movie.
Other than the ripping process, I don't deal with physical discs other than just for a re-rip ONLY if necessary. When I want to keep a movie, I buy it from the local pawn shop and digitize it for my own personal use.
